Warrant
After learning that Newtown police held an arrest warrant for Nestor Duque, 41, of Danbury, state police turned over Duque to Newtown police on the evening of May 4, Newtown police said.
 Newtown police charged Duque with evading responsibility in connection with a motor vehicle accident that occurred last October 26.
Duque posted a $100 bond and was released for a May 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.
Larceny Charges
On the afternoon of May 3, Torrington police turned over Gerard Capozio, 45, of Torrington to Newtown police, after learning that Newtown police held an arrest warrant for him.
Newtown police charged Capozio with two counts of sixth degree larceny in connection with the theft of power tools from a Huntingtown Road residence sometime between March and May of 2002.
After posting a $250 bond, police released Capozio for a May 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Chrysler Vs Pole
Motorist Aditya S. Sandhu, 18, of San Antonio, Tex., who was driving a 1995 Chrysler Sebring, pulled out of a parking space in the Newtown Shopping Village parking lot at 6 Queen Street at about 9:44 pm May 2 and drove into a light post, police report. Sandhu was not wearing a seatbelt, police said.
Newtown Hook and Ladder firefighters went to the accident. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Sandhu to Danbury Hospital for treatment of facial injuries, police said. Police took no enforcement.
Mt Pleasant Crash
Motorist Kyndra A. Evans, 26, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Celica, was traveling northward on Mt Pleasant Road at about 10:12 am May 2, when she noticed a northbound motorist who was in front of her apply the brakes, so Evans applied the Toyotaâs brakes, police said.
Northbound motorist Daniel Quiroz, 25, of 130 Mt Pleasant Road, who was driving a 1991 Chevrolet Lumina, then struck the Toyota from behind, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Quiroz an infraction ticket on charges of driving without a license and failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Great Quarter Collision
An accident involving a moving van and a minivan occurred on Great Quarter Road, near Loveland Drive, about 6:13 pm May 1, police report.
Motorist Barahona Edgardo Sanchez, 33, of Laval, Quebec, Canada, was driving a 1996 GMC moving van northward, as motorist Renate P. Burch, 49, of 261 Berkshire Road was driving a 1994 Dodge Caravan minivan southward there, according to police.
As the vehicles were rounding a curve from opposite directions, they made contact, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Sanchez for failure to keep to the right on a curve.
Object Off Truck
Motorist Ruben Ruiz, 39, of Waterbury was driving a 1997 Ford coupe westward on Interstate 84 near Exit 10 about 4:50 pm April 30 when a black object fell off a 1998 Kenworth truck owned by Metcalf Paving of Southbury, state police said.
The fallen object then struck the Ford, state police said. Ruiz was not injured. State police did not identify the truck driver. The accident is under investigation.
Hawleyville Accident
State police report that motorist Lynn Liesegang, 53, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1998 Kia station wagon, was on the Exit 9 off-ramp of westbound Interstate 84 in Hawleyville about 6:51 pm May 1, when a tractor-trailer truck backed into the Kia. State police did not identify the truck driver. There were no injuries. State police are investigating.
Three-Car Crash
State police report a three-car accident on eastbound Interstate 84 about 6:17 pm May 4.
Motorist Richard Cole, 56, of Meriden, who was driving a 1997 Nissan Sentra, slowed down for traffic and was struck from behind by motorist Jaclyn Thibodeau, 21, of Danbury, who was driving a 1999 Hyundai Elantra, state police said.
The Hyundai was then struck from behind by Rose Annis, 40, of Hamden, who was driving a 1995 Nissan Maxima, state police said. There were no injuries.
State police said Thibodeau was following too closely. Also, state police said Annis was traveling too fast for conditions.
Larceny Warrant
On his discharge from the state Department of Correctionâs Manson Youth Institution in Cheshire on the morning of May 5, Newtown police served Joshua Cable, 17, of 16-A Little Brook Lane with an arrest warrant listing a count of fourth degree larceny, which is a felony.
Police said the arrest stems from Cableâs alleged theft last September 30 or October 1 of a Go-Ped motorized scooter and a Mongoose BMX bicycle. The items are valued at approximately $1,000.
Police transported Cable to the Newtown police station for booking on the charge, after which he was arraigned in Danbury Superior Court.
Parking Lot
Police report they charged three women with breach of peace on the night of May 6 following a minor altercation in the parking lot of Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street.
Melissa Mucci, 18, of 7 Appleblossom Lane came to the police station about 10:50 pm to complain about the incident, police said.
Due to the circumstances of the case, police said they charged Mucci and two others with breach of peace. The others charged are Laura Kitson, 22, of 57 Cedar Hill Road, and Chelsea Leaman, 19, of 56 Queen Street, police said.
After processing, police released all three on written promises to appear May 20 in Danbury Superior Court.
Power Washer
Police report that sometime between 12:30 and 5 pm on April 21, someone stole a red-and-white ASM brand power washer from Newtown Color Center at 5 Queen Street. The crime is fourth degree larceny. Police ask anyone with information about the theft to contact them at 426-5841.
Canoe Missing
Sometime during the past few weeks, someone stole a green Coleman canoe from a residence on Plumtrees Road, police report. Police are investigating the fifth degree larceny and ask anyone with information to contact them.
Mailbox Damage
The resident of 10 Chestnut Knoll reported to police that on May 3 or 4 someone dented her mailbox, causing $50 of damage to it. The crime is third degree criminal mischief. Police are investigating but have no suspects.
Black Bicycle
On May 4, a person dropped off a black Cannondale-brand bicycle at the police station for safekeeping. The bicycle was found at Edmond Town Hall at 45 Main Street. The owner may claim the bicycle at the police station, 3 Main Street.
Rock Rip-Off
On May 2, the caretaker at the Fulton Estate at 18 Platts Hill Road contacted police to report a theft. Someone has been stealing rocks from the stone walls at the estate. The caretaker estimates that 1,000 pounds of rocks worth $60 have been stolen, police said. Police are investigating.
South Main Crash
At about 6:40 pm May 6, motorist Allison Klein, 16, of 5 Galilee Way, who was driving a 2001 Honda CRV, pulled out of Orchard Hill Road onto South Main Street into the path of oncoming southbound motorist Cynthia Campbell, 34, of Fairfield, who was driving a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta sedan, resulting in a collision, police said.
Campbell was transported to Danbury hospital to be checked for neck pain, police said. Police issued Klein an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to grant the right of way after a stop.
Sandy Hook Accident
Motorist Kyle Kling, 16, of 101 Huntingtown Road was driving a 1997 Jeep Wrangler westward on Route 34 about 6 pm May 2 and then slowed to turn right onto Pole Bridge Road, when he was struck from behind by motorist Jason Pease, 27, of 30 Shut Road, who was driving a 1992 Ford F-150 pickup truck, police report.
There were no injuries. Police issued Pease a written warning for following too closely.
Route 302 Crash
Motorist Curtis Presti, 25, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo southward on Sugar Lane at about 9:49 am May 7, failed to stop at a stop sign there and entered Route 302, colliding with westbound motorist Jill Passaro, 21, of 10 Flat Swamp Road, who was driving a 1998 Honda UCL, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said that Presti failed to obey and stop sign and also failed to carry automotive insurance.
Three-Vehicle Collision
Police report a three-vehicle accident occurred near 91 South Main Street about 1 pm May 1.
Motorist Lynn Buttner, 59, of 28 Lake Road, who was driving a 2001 Chrysler Town and Country minivan, stopped in the southbound lane and was waiting to make a left turn into a parking lot, after which southbound motorist Annamarie Coniglio, 50, of Bethel, who was driving a 2000 Volkswagen JGS, stopped behind the Chrysler, police said.
Southbound motorist Daniel Huhn, 36, of Nashua, N.H., who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, then struck the rear end of the Volkswagen, pushing the Volkswagen into the rear end of the Chrysler, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Huhn an infraction ticket on a charge of traveling at an unsafe distance.
