Relay For Life In Monroe, Bethel

MONROE –– The American Cancer Society Relay for Life will be held in Monroe this weekend, May 9–10, and in Bethel on May 16–17.

The annual events raise funds for the American Cancer Society’s programs of research, education, and service to area patients and their families.

The event in Monroe will be held at the Masuk High School track. In Bethel, it will be at the Bethel High School track.

The Friday evening event in Monroe is preceded by a survivor reception, to which all survivors and caretakers are invited. The reception is free of charge and will feature food, music, and a raffle.

The relays begin with an opening Victory lap with cancer survivors. On the second lap, caregivers join in the relay. On the third lap, they will be joined by team members, participants, neighbors, and volunteers.

Anyone who wishes to participate in either event can volunteer, form a team, join a team that needs a few more members, or sponsor a luminaria (a candle in a wax bag) to honor people who have been touched by cancer. For more information, call the American Cancer Society’s regional office at 800-889-3340 (then press 3).
