The RISING STAR Summer League, sponsored by Newtown Park and Recreation, will open its fifth season the week of July 9. Teams will play two games per week in the evenings at Treadwell Park. Playoffs, clinics, and an All Star game are also planned.

“This promises to be a lot of fun while you prepare to become the future stars of Newtown basketball,” said coach Quinn. “Our varsity players coach the teams and each participant will receive a league t-shirt with the NHS Nighthawk basketball logo.”

Registrations will be sent home in summer packets and will also available at the Park and Recreation office. The program code is 41020A for the boys and 41020B for the girls. Fee will be $65. Each team will have up to 12 players, which ensures a full schedule, yet allows players to vacation, participate in other summer sports events, etc.

Hoop Camp

To all players ages 6 to 16 – coach Quinn has worked out an arrangement for all Newtown basketball players, boys or girls to attend one of the best basketball camps in Connecticut. Coach Joe DeSantis, head basketball coach at Quinnipiac University, has extended a “special invitation” to all Newtown players interested in attending his day camp.

Coach DeSantis has offered a special rate ($210 per week) plus free transportation to and from camp. The Quinnipiac basketball camp’s goal is to help youngsters ages 6-16 become better players and people through fun-filled, fair play of basketball. All of the drills, games and competitions have been designed with the campers’ education and entertainment needs in mind.

Sessions will be – Week 1: June 23-27; Week 2: July 14-18*; Week 3: August 4-8 (*per NCAA rules, students are not permitted to attend camp on Friday, July 18, if they have started ninth grade classes). Each session will run from 9 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday. Pick up is at St. Rose School.

Each camper receives a camp T-shirt and camp basketball.

Anyone players interested, please call coach Quinn at 270-7275 for questions and application.
