The Newtown Parks and Recreation Departmentâs popular Field Hockey Camp returned to Fairfield Hills last week under the leadership of Newtown High School field hockey coaches Kathy Davey and Kim Lowell.
More than three dozens young athletes attended the camp, which was also facilitated by several former Newtown High players. The girls (in grades 6 to 9) were introduced to the game of field hockey â starting with the basic skills and moving on to more advanced skills.
Later in the week, there were small-sided games to help teach offensive and defensive strategies. Besides field play, campers were also introduced to the tough job of goalkeeping and that featured discussion of equipment and techniques.
