Men’s Senior Championship

The rain finally cleared out just in time for the 2011 Two Day Men’s Senior Championship this past weekend. The competition was intense, with most of the members of the field within two to four shots of each other through 18 holes.

Michael Portnoy led the field in gross scoring after day one, shooting a 76, a one-up lead over Tom Bartram. Close behind were both John Gschwind and Art Fuller, only three shots off the lead.

Leading the field for Net Score was Len Calbo Sr, shooting a one under 69, a one-up lead over Bill Gillotti.

In the end, a consistent two days of play by John Gswhind earned him gross score champion, as he shot a 154 total, with runner-up Tom Bartram shooting 156. Len Calbo Sr played even better the second day, shooting a 6 under 64 to secure his victory to become net score champion. He shot a 133 total, with runner-up Michael Portnoy shooting 139.

Rock Ridge Cup

Two-time runner-up Frank Gavel found himself in the finals for the Rock Ridge Cup again this time around. His opponent, 2011 Men’s Two Day Member Guest champion Mike Johnson came out firing early, establishing a three up lead through nine holes. The two battled it out but, in the end, Mike Johnson came out up on top, making him this year’s Rock Ridge Cup Champion.
