Day Camp

SOUTHBURY — The Audubon Center at Bent of the River is hosting sessions of Naturalist Day Camp this summer. Sessions run Monday through Friday from 9 am to 2 pm, with last-minute enrollment still being accepted for the next three weeks of camp. Children meet in age-appropriate groups, with Junior Naturalist Camps geared toward those entering grades 2-4 in the fall and Senior Naturalist Camps for those entering grades 4-6.

The final session of Junior Naturalist Camp will be held July 28 through August 1, and then two more sessions of Senior Naturalist Camp are scheduled for the weeks of August 4-8 and August 11-15. For camp enrollment information, contact the center at 264-5098. The Audubon Center is at 185 East Flat Hill Road, off Route 172 in the South Britain section of Southbury.

A group of eager young outdoor enthusiasts recently completed their week of learning at the day camp. The week’s studies focused on habitats, with emphasis on the Pomperaug River and the meadows and forests on the center’s 650 acres.

Using field guides specifically developed for the Bent, the youngsters learned to identify plants and animals in each habitat.
