Julia Ruggiero Viglione

Sample Maker For Garment Industry

Julia Ruggiero Viglione, 93, died March 16 in St Joseph’s Manor. She was the wife of the late Anthony Viglione. Born on August 11, 1914, in Bridgeport, she was the daughter of John and Pasqualina (Cioffi) Ruggiero and the stepdaughter of Philomena (Cioffi) Ruggiero.

She is survived by her devoted children, Anthony Viglione and his wife, Elizabeth, of Newtown, Matthew Martiro and his wife, Carol, of Trumbull, and Virginia Hofford and her husband, Kenneth, of Trumbull; a sister, Lena Filippini of Ansonia; four grandchildren, Lynn, Matthew, Jennifer, and Michael; five great-grandchildren, Anthony, Samantha, Connor, Sadie, and Owen; and several nieces and nephews. Her brother, Anthony Ruggiero, predeceased her.

Mrs Viglione was a sample maker seamstress of women’s sportswear, dresses, and lingerie for the garment industry. Her samples were brought to the New York buyers for seasonal ordering. She loved to knit and crochet. She spent many hours making hats for newborn infants for local hospitals in the Bridgeport and New Haven areas as a member of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.

She was a volunteer at the Trumbull Senior Nutrition Program for many years. As a member of the Golden Follies and the Chorus at the Trumbull Senior Center, she enjoyed sharing her love of music with others. Mrs Viglione was a parishioner of St Catherine of Siena Parish, and a past member of St Catherine’s Ladies Guild, the Friendship Club, and the Columbiettes. She was also a member of the Social Club at Stern Village.

The family would like to extend their thanks and deep appreciation to the entire staff at St Joseph’s Manor for their wonderful care. A reading of the Liturgy of the Word was held March 20. Interment followed in St Michael Cemetery, Stratford.
