Christopher L. Hoffmann, 58, of West Granby, beloved husband of Jeanne (Pazik) Hoffmann, died February 20, surrounded by his loving family. The son of the late Francis and Helen (Hanlon) Hoffmann, he was born October 26, 1953, in Danbury.
Mr Hoffman grew up in Newtown, and was a graduate of Newtown High School.
Along with his wife of more than 32 years, he leaves three children, three siblings, including Elyse Hoffmann of Newtown; and his mother-in-law, and sister- and brother-in-laws.
Mr Hoffmann graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1975 with a degree in mechanical engineering and went on to earn his masterâs degree in 1977. He received his PhD in metallurgy from the University of Connecticut in 1981.
Mr Hoffmann began his career in 1982 at the Naval Research Laboratories in Washington, D.C., and worked for Combustion Engineering, ABB, and currently Westinghouse Electric as a metallurgical engineer and consultant for more than 28 years. Mr Hoffmann received numerous awards and recognitions throughout his career for his significant contributions in the development of the nuclear power industry. One of these many accolades included an American Society of Mechanical Engineers award for nearly three decades of distinguished contributions in the field of metallurgical engineering for the advancement of nuclear technologies, particularly research programs that advanced materials technology for nuclear reactor designs. He was also recently inducted into the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering.
He was a brilliant man of quick wit who focused on his family and work. A kind, caring, honest and humble man, he will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved him.
Burial was in Granby Cemetery.
