United Way Food Drive To Benefit Local Food Banks
United Way Food Drive To Benefit Local Food Banks
As part of the United Way of Northern Fairfield Countyâs ninth annual Day of Caring and campaign kickoff, a food drive is underway that will benefit nine local food pantries. Twenty-nine local companies are collecting food from their employees, including several local banks and stores that will also have bins for donations from the public.
Connecticut area food banks have reported an increase in demand due to the poor economy, and inventories are at an all-time low. Carol Lubus and Darlene Russell of Boehringer Ingelheim, along with Tim Baughman from the Salvation Army, are coordinating this yearâs food drive.
Public donation bins are at the following locations: Stop & Shop supermarkets on Lake Avenue Extension and Newtown Road;Â Wal-Mart at Exit 8; the Danbury Fair Mall; Danbury Hospital main lobby; Super Foodmart on Padanaram Road, Webster Bank, Union Savings Bank, The News-Times, Newtown Savings Bank, Ridgefield Bank, Fleet Bank, and Bethel Food Mart.
Donations will be collected through September 10.
