Rabiya Ansari Honored By Rotary
The Newtown Rotary Club named Rabiya Ansari Newtown High School Student of the Month. Rabiya was introduced by Peg Ragani, in charge of the School to Career program, who thanked the Rotary for the opportunity to recognize the outstanding efforts of the students participating in the School to Career Program. The program strives to prepare all students to become productive workers in the academic and professional settings, lifelong learners, and responsible citizens.
Rabiya exemplifies the self-directed learner who goes beyond what is expected of her and seeks out new experiences to further her goal. Mrs Ragani stated that she has known Rabiya for the last two years through the regional Medical Internship Program sponsored through Education Connecticut. Rabiya plans to become a physician.
Always seeking out new opportunities to learn about the medical field is exemplified by the fact she has worked at three different medical settings, the last being with a physician in the emergency room at Waterbury Hospital.
Besides all this, Rabiya has participated in a summer program exploring medical careers sponsored by AHEC and in her junior year had the opportunity to participate in an optional program designed for students to study and develop a presentation on a subject they were most interested in. Rabiyaâs topic was psychological differences between males and females.
In addition to all these programs, Rabiya has given back to her community as well. She is a co-chair of the Charity Club, volunteer for the Summer Reading Program, and has directed a childrenâs play at the town library. She is also on the softball team and plays Park & Rec basketball. Rotary and Mrs Ragani are most pleased to name Rabiya as Rotary Clubâs Student of the Month.
