UMC Youth Group

Plans Clothing Drive

Members of the United Methodist Church’s Youth Group are holding a collection drive on Sunday, October 12, from 9 am to 1 pm, in the parking lot of the church on Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook center.

Used men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing is being collected along with shoes, bedding, and towels.

The items will go to the American Clothing Recycling Company in Seymour for distribution to those in need in the United States and in the third-world countries of Africa, South America, Central America, and Asia.

The youth group will receive four cents per pound for the donated items. The money will be donated to Camp to Belong in Colorado, a summer camp that for the past nine years has been reuniting siblings who have been separated by being placed in separate foster homes.

The cost of sending one child to the camp is about $2,000. Last year, the Methodist Youth Group paid for the cost of one child through its fundraiser.

Tax deduction forms will be available during the clothing drive.
