Health & Safety Fair To Hold Annual Pumpkin Walk
Health & Safety Fair To
Hold Annual Pumpkin Walk
Organizers of the annual Newtown Health and Safety Fair, scheduled this year for Saturday, October 4, plan to launch a new event this year: a Pumpkin Walk that begin at noon in front of the Newtown Middle School.
âIt is a very easy two-mile out-and-back loop that is a flat, noncompetitive course suitable for all ages and abilities, including wheelchairs,â said Dr Della Schmid, co-organizer.
The walk will begin in front of the middle school on Queen Street, go around the Grand Place loop back to Queen Street, go down Queen to the Merryhill Child Care Center, turn around and walk back to the middle school.
Preregistration is encouraged. Preregistration is $5 for adults, $1 for children. On the day of the event, registration will take place at the middle school until 11:30 am. The fee will be $6 for adults, $2 for children. The signature of a parent or guardian is required for all walkers under the age of 18.
There will be gifts for all registered walkers. All participants are invited to postwalk refreshments.
All proceeds raised each year for the event will be donated to health-related charities and to promote good health for all through walking. This year the proceeds will benefit a project of the Newtown Youth Serviceâs NYCAAP program.
âThese proceeds will specifically address peer education of substance abuse issues in the Newtown middle and high schools. This program recently lost its state-funding grant,â Dr Schmid said.
