The Connecticut Authors Reading Series, spotlighting the work of authors who live and write in the Nutmeg State, will continue at C.H. Booth Library on Sunday, May 1, from 2 to 4 pm.

The guests for the next program include New York Times columnist Mark Oppenheimer, poets Carol Ann Davis and David Cappella, and Linda Legters, who will return to the series with her recently published novel, Connected Underneath. The series is curated by Newtown author Sophfronia Scott.

The writers will read from both published works and works in progress, with time in between each reading for discussion and Q&A with the audience about the craft of writing. Refreshments will be served and books available for purchase.

David Cappella is a poet and Professor of English at Central Connecticut State University where he teaches creative writing and literature. He has co-authored two widely used poetry textbooks, Teaching the Art of Poetry: The Moves and A Surge of Language: Teaching Poetry Day to Day.

His Gobbo: A Solitaire's Opera won the Bright Hill Press Poetry Chapbook Competition in 2006. His poems and essays have appeared in various literary journals and anthologies in the US and Europe.

His novel, Kindling, was published by Piscataqua Press in January 2016.

Carol Ann Davis, the recipient of an NEA Fellowship in Poetry, has prose or poetry forthcoming or recently out in The Georgia Review, The American Poetry Review and Beloit Poetry Journal.

An essay of hers was a 2015 finalist in the Essay & Criticisms category of the National Magazine Awards. Her poetry collections are Atlas Hour (Tupelo, 2011) and Psalm (Tupelo, 2007).

A former longtime editor of Crazyhorse, in 2012 Ms Davis moved to Connecticut, where she teaches in the Fairfield University MFA Program in Creative Writing, edits the literary journal Dogwood, and is Associate Professor of English.

Linda Legters will be reading from her new novel, Connected Underneath. Her work has appeared in numerous literary journals, including Glimmer Train, Alaska Quarterly and Calliope.

She teaches literature and writing at Norwalk Community College, JoinOneRoom.com, and Fairfield County Writers Studio. She lives in Newtown.

Mark Oppenheimer is the author of three books, including the memoir Wisenheimer: A Childhood Subject to Debate, about his career as a champion high school debater. He writes the monthly "Beliefs" column, about religion, for The New York Times and has also written for The New York Times Magazine, The Nation, Slate, and many other publications.

He has reported for This American Life, and he now hosts the podcast Unorthodox. He lives in New Haven with his wife and four daughters.
