Trim A Tree For Charity;

Second Annual Gala At Homesteads

The Homesteads at Newtown will host “Wonderland Of Trees,” its 2nd Annual Festival of Trees & Silent Auction, on Thursday, December 18.

Before that can happen, the senior living facility is inviting area businesses, organizations and individuals to trim a tree for the holidays and the Western Connecticut Chapter of the American Red Cross.

“Last year’s Festival of Trees was a great success, we had twenty beautifully decorated trees. This season we are hoping to have twice that amount,” says Linda Silberstein, owner of The Homesteads at Newtown.

The Homesteads has purchased 40 three-foot tall trees, each already decorated with lights. Now it needs people to help decorate those trees, which will be sold during a silent auction. Trees need to be reserved and picked up as soon as possible; call 426-8118 to participate. The Homesteads can even work to arrange delivery, at no charge, for those who would like to decorate a tree but cannot get out of their home.

Trees should be decorated and returned to The Homesteads no later than 5 pm on Friday, November 28. They will be on display throughout the halls and Great Room of The Homesteads until the day of the festival and auction. Labels will identify the decorators of each tree.

Successful bids will be announced at 8 pm in the Terrace View Dining Room on December 18. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the American Red Cross.
