Robert Allen, 88, died August 11, of natural causes, at his daughterâs home in Sydney, Australia. Mr Allen was born in Greenwich on April 10, 1918, the son of Sigfred Freeman and Theresa Sundblad Allen.
He lived in Newtown for 79 years before spending the last four years in Australia.
He is survived by his brother Paul and his wife, Dolores, of Newtown; his daughters Marybeth Allen and her husband, Michael Rich, and grandson, Isaac A. Rich, of Sydney, Australia, and Leslie Allen and her husband, Theron Wentworth, and grandsons Simon A. and Caleb M. Wentworth, of Kennebunk, Maine; his sons Robert M. Allen and partner, Paul Baumann, of Albuquerque, N.M., and Eric Allen of Kennebunk; his sister-in-law, Helen Miarano of Orange; his cousin, Lorraine Hamilton of Port Huron, Mich.; and his nieces and nephews. Mr Allen was predeceased by his wife of 21 years, Shirley M. Manning, and by his brothers Albert, George, and Charles Allen.
Mr Allen graduated from Newtown High School, served in the US Army Corp during World War II, and attended Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. He worked as a salesmen for Dan-Ridge Chevrolet in Danbury and then for Don Heavens Chevrolet in Woodbury until his retirement in 1981.
He loved to tinker, garden, travel, and meet people. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
His remains will be cremated in Australia. Arrangements for his memorial service and interment will follow at a later date.
