Local photographer Donald Bruen is currently hosting an exhibit of about 25 of his photographs at C.H. Booth Library. His photographs include a wide range of subject matters including architecture, people, and landscapes. On Wednesday, September 26, at 7 pm, he will give a talk on photography in general and its place in the art world. Come with questions and your camera.

MISSING STATUE: The status of the little boy reading was taken from the library’s rose garden recently. Anyone with any information on this theft should report it to the library and/or police.

Children’s Programs

YOUNG ADULT BOOK DISCUSSION: Liz Arneth will meet with young adults in grades 5-8 on Thursday, October 18, from 4:30 to 5:30 pm, to discuss the novel Dave at Night. Gail Carson Levine, the author of Ella Enchanted, has written this fictionalized account of her own father’s experiences growing up in a Hebrew home for boys. The main character in the book, Dave, is torn between the rich night life of Harlem in its heyday and the friends he has in the orphanage. Multiple copies of the book are available at the children’s desk.

Adult Program

POETRY EVENT: Sunday, September 30, at 2 pm, there will be an open-microphone poetry event in the meeting room of the library. All high school students and adults are invited. Bring a favorite or original poem to read or just come and listen. Refreshments will be served.

DAYTIME BOOK GROUP: The Greatest Generation by Tom Brokew will be discussed in the Special Collections Room on the third floor from 1 to 2:30 on Monday, October 8.

PARTNERS IN CRIME: A Mystery Book Discussion Series: This book discussion will explore the relationships of three very different mystery solving couples. On September 25, the title will be A Catskill Eagle by Robert Parker; call for future titles. Discussions take place at 7:30 pm. Sign up at the circulation desk or by calling 426-4533.

FREE BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENING: Ashlar’s next monthly free blood pressure screening will be on September 27. Appointments are not needed.
