Field Improvements At Oakview
Several mounds of soil at Oakview Field on the corner of Oakview Road and Wasserman Way are now smoothed across the ground as town crews renovate the site.
With improvements underway, Parks and Recreation Director Amy Mangold said this week, âWe are now able to make for a better playing experience for all who use the field.â The field space will also be more âbookableâ when upgrades are complete, Ms Mangold said.
Work started in late December. âThe weather is in our favor,â Ms Mangold said. Thanks to a mild winter, the ground has not been frozen, she said.
Using materials from other town projects, the screened and graded soil is one step in a roughly $48,000 budgeted project to install power, irrigation, and drainage there. The field has always had poor drainage, Ms Mangold said, and space to park had presented a problem. Cars were often lined up in the breakdown lane on Wasserman Way bordering the field. With plans to accommodate more than 60 spots, Ms Mangold said, âParking will still fit in the area, so people will not have to park on the road. It will all be contained within the site.â
Although the field will be in better shape for future use, it will not be ready for play until the spring of 2013. Once site work is complete, the field will need a âgrowing seasonâ before it is ready for play.
Both recreation and highway department crews are doing the work.
