Annual Art Lab Show Opens Saturday
DANBURY â The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum of Ridgefield is presenting âLiving Ritual,â an exhibition of the work of 14 young artists participating in the museumâs Art Lab program. âLiving Ritualâ will be on view May 1-30 at the museumâs annex space, Thirteen Gallery, 13 Library Place, in neighboring Danbury.
An opening reception is planned for Saturday, May 1, from 6 to 8 pm.
In Art Lab, high school students work with Nina Carlson, director of education at The Aldrich Museum, to learn about the inner workings of the contemporary art world. This year, in addition to taking field trips to artistsâ studios and galleries in New York City, students met and worked with artists such as Chris Durante, Eva Lee, Mary Lum, architect Tim Hayduck and designer Bushra Gill.
Using the experience gained by working with these artists, the students developed the idea of âLiving Ritualâ and organized the exhibition. Students are responsible for every aspect of the event, including the concept, press, educational materials and artwork.
Artists in the exhibition are: Renee Davies of Brookfield, Jon Ganjian of New Fairfield, Jesse Grauer and Shannon Jannelle of Ridgefield, Sean Heslin, Lauren Kelley and Fei Li of New Milford, Joe Kopta and Tierney Oberhammer of Bethel, Sarah Noonan of Easton, MacKenzie Peck of Danbury, Margaret Randall of Newtown, Carolyn Stoner of Westport, and Heather Whitehead of Redding.
