Nominate Morgan Graham
By Jan Howard
Democrat Morgan Graham of Fairfield received the nomination of her party to run for the 28th District senatorial seat during a convention Monday at McKinley Elementary School in Fairfield.
The seat is currently held by incumbent Republican Senator John McKinney of Fairfield, who is seeking his fourth term. He was endorsed at a convention on May 19 at the Helen Keller Middle School in Easton.
Ms Graham said Tuesday that she is running for the seat because of her concern about the quality of life for residents of the 28th District, which consists of the towns of Newtown, Fairfield, Easton, and Weston.
If elected, she said she would be interested in issues relating to transportation and the environment.
âWe have to have a better train system, with less cars on the highway,â she said. She also noted she would support a high-speed ferry across the Sound.
âA private organization is already designing that,â Ms Graham said.
In regard to the environment, Ms Graham said one of her concerns is in regard to the cable across the Sound, which currently is not operating.
âIt doesnât comply with permits,â she said. She noted her concerns about the possible destruction of shellfish beds.
In addition, she said, âThe cross-Sound cable is not for our peopleâ and presents potential dangers to Long Island Sound.
If elected, Ms Graham has hopes of being appointed to the transportation and judiciary committees.
Ms Graham has worked with Love Makes A Family, a grass roots equal rights organization.
A six-year resident of Fairfield, Ms Graham is a native of Oklahoma and currently is a realtor with Prudential Connecticut Realty.
