Change Of Plans For Newtown Hikers

This weekend’s hike hosted by Newtown Hikers will be at Bear Mountain in Danbury. This is a change from the originally scheduled program at Tarrywile Park.

Weekly programs begin each Saturday at 9 am, with participants meeting in the lower rear parking lot of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street, to carpool to the hike location.

Those who want to meet the group at a different point are asked to call the listed leader before the morning of a hike. Also, call the leader if the weather is doubtful.

This weekend’s program leader is Molly Schleiss, 203-616-5950.

Bring lunch and beverages. Sturdy shoes or boots are recommended. Dress for the weather. For further information, contact Newtown Hikes coordinator Esther Nichols at 203-788-1398 or pilgrim555@charter.net, or Parks & Rec at 203-270-4340.

There is no membership fee. Hikers participate at their own risk and must sign a release for Newtown Parks & Recreation Department.

The group’s spring schedule continues for two more weekends, with a hike planned for June 16 at Muscoot Farm, Somers, N.Y. (no dogs; hike leader is Jim Steck, 845-621-5559 or 914-806-4107), and then June 23 at Osbornedale State Park, Derby, where a short hike will be followed by a potluck cookout in pavilion, rain or shine, and fall schedule planning (hike leader Tim Hanbury, 203–888-3025; directions and food coordination by Sally Cox, 203-426-9903).

Always check with the listed leader of each hike for hike details, weather cancellations and/or schedule changes.
