One More Weekend To Enjoy
âDinnerâ With Town Players
Town Players of Newtown have opened the 2004 season with Marc Camolettiâs hilarious comedy (adapted by Robin Hawdon) Donât Dress For Dinner at The Little Theatre on Orchard Hill Road in Newtown.
Performances will wrap this weekend; two shows remain. Curtain is 8 pm Friday and Saturday, May 28 and 29, and all seats are $15.
The play tells of Bernard, who is hoping to entertain his chic Parisian mistress, Suzy, while his wife Jacqueline is away visiting her mother. He has even invited his best friend Robert as his alibi. What could possibly go wrong? Mix all these ingredients and the result is the perfect recipe for an evening of hilarious fun.
Ron Malyszka has been selected to play Bernard, Suzanne Kinnear is playing his wife Jacqueline, Erica OâConnor is Suzanne, and Doug Miller is Robert. Additional cast members including Phyllis Gonzales is Suzette and Rob Pawlikowski as George.
The set is a stylishly converted farmhouse outside of Paris designed and constructed by Dan Paynter of Newtown. Lighting design is by Rob Pawlikowski, with execution by Brian OâConnor.
The production is being directed by Evelyne Thomas, with stage management by Sarah McSweeney, both of Newtown.
Julie Sternâs recent review in The Newtown Bee said â[Ms] Thomas guides the group through their paces with a deft hand, and keeps the audience laughing continuously. Doug Miller is particularly good as the reluctant Robert, and Texas transplant Phyllis Gonzales is terrific as the imperturbable Suzette.
âIn their attempts to communicate behind Jacquelineâs back, Miller and Ron Malyszka (as Bernard) are very funny.
âAs Jacqueline, Suzanne Kinnear expresses her dudgeon highly, wielding a soda siphon with such lethal accuracy that her husband has to keep changing his clothes (hence the title).
âFor those who like farce, this is entertaining and well done,â concluded Ms Stern.
