IRS Invites Residents To 'Meet The Taxpayer Advocate'
IRS Invites Residents To âMeet The Taxpayer Advocateâ
HARTFORD â Connecticut residents are invited to meet with an Internal Revenue Service Taxpayer Advocate in Norwalk on Tuesday, June 29, at the IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center, 24 Belden Avenue.
The Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) is an independent arm of the IRS established to protect taxpayer rights and ensure fair treatment. Its mission is to help taxpayers solve problems with the IRS and recommend changes that will prevent them.
âConnecticut taxpayersâ federal returns generally go through without a hitch and if there is a problem it is generally solved with a call or letter to the IRS,â said Fran Romano, IRS taxpayer advocate for Connecticut. âHowever, if you do run into a tougher problem or are facing a significant hardship, the Taxpayer Advocate Service is here to help,â he said.
Cases handled through the TAS are assigned a personal taxpayer advocate who reviews the situation from the taxpayerâs point of view and works with the taxpayer until the matter is resolved. Issues that the TAS has successfully resolved range from expediting refunds for individuals with extreme hardships to unraveling complex business tax matters.
A representative from the Taxpayer Advocate Service will be available at the IRS office on June 29, from 9 am until 3 pm. Taxpayers will have a chance to meet with an advocate one-on-one to discuss any question they have concerning the Taxpayer Advocate Service.
Questions concerning this event can be directed to the TAS at 860-756-4555.
