Walter Huniyack

Former Member   VFW Post #308

Walter Huniyack, 85, of Sandy Hook, husband of the late Helen (Hatala) Huniyack, died on January 8 at Bridgeport Hospital. He was born in Olyphant, Penn., on March 5, 1920, a son of William and Paraska Huniyack.

His daughter, Marianne Huniyack of Sandy Hook; two sisters, Olga Metchl of Stratford and Tillie Killian of South Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and several grandnieces and grandnephews survive Mr Huniyack.

Mr Huniyack was a US Army veteran of World War II. He was a longtime employee of International Harvester and retired from Bridgeport Machine in 1984. A resident of Newtown since 1984, Walter was member of St John’s #32 Masonic Lodge in Bridgeport and was former member of VFW Post #308 in Newtown.

Funeral services were held January 11 in the Honan Funeral Home, Newtown, with Rev Masiluk of St Mary’s Ukrainian Church officiating. Interment followed in St Rose Cemetery, Sandy Hook.
