Cynthia Wood, 85, died August 27 at Ashlar of Newtown. Mrs Wood was the wife of the late Rex A. Wood and had resided on Fox Run Lane South in Newtown from 1969 through 1980.
She was born in College Grove, Tenn., on May 3, 1922, a daughter of Murrey and Lela Maude (Neely) Hughes. Mrs Wood attended Columbia High School in Columbia, Tenn., and graduated from Vanderbilt University with a degree in nursing.
Due to her husbandâs many job relocations with Dixie Cut/American Can Company, Mrs Wood had many wonderful jobs in the nursing field around the country. She worked at the Veterans Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.; University of Texas MD Anderson Hospital; Danbury Hospital; Fairfield Hills Hospital; and Buckingham Gardens/Ashlar of Newtown before retiring in 1980 to Merryville, Tenn., and later to Lakeland, Fla.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Schnuck and her husband, Greg, of Danbury; and a granddaughter, Katie Schnuck, also of Danbury.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, Franklin, Tenn., at the convenience of the family.
Mrs Woodâs family wishes to say thank you to the staff of 9W at Danbury Hospital and much love to the entire staff at Ashlar of Newtown for their love and concern for Mrs Wood during her time at Ashlar.
