To Speak At Hadassah Tea
WATERBURY â Joan Leegant, the author of An Hour in Paradise, will speak to the community at a tea sponsored by the Waterbury Chapter of Hadassah from 3 to 5 pm on Sunday, November 7, in the board room of Traurig Library at Teikyo Post University, 800 Country Club Road. The public is invited to attend. The Board Room is wheelchair accessible on the main floor.

Ms Leegant will offer insight into a writerâs mind in her discussion of the creative process as she reads from her book of short stories. An Hour in Paradise was the winner of the 2004 Winship/PEN New England Award, 2004 Edward Lewis Wallant Award for Jewish Fiction, and is a selection of the Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers Series.
The bookâs title comes from the Yiddish proverb, âEven a hour in paradise is worthwhile.â Her prize-winning collection of stories has a certain edge. Provocative and off-beat, in settings from Jerusalem to Queens, from the outskirts of Hollywood to Sarasota, Fla., her book presents characters who soldier on, despite the odds, in search of divine and human connection.
Ms Leegant will be signing copies of her book, which will be sold at the door. The paperback version is $13.95.
