Free Singing Valentines For Sweethearts Of Deployed US Service Men and Women

DANBURY — This Valentine’s Day, the Danbury-based Mad Hatters Barbershop Chorus, a non-profit a cappella group, will kick off its annual Singing Valentine program by offering ten free serenades to sweethearts of deployed US service men and women.  The Mad Hatters are accepting requests from friends and family on behalf of the deployed service men and women, who believe their sweethearts would like to receive a Singing Valentine.

Mad Hatter quartets will conduct the serenades at homes and places of work in the Connecticut towns of Danbury, Redding, Ridgefield, New Fairfield, Brookfield, Newtown, Bethel and southern New Milford, as well as the New York towns of Brewster, Patterson, Carmel and Putnam Lake. Serenades are slated to take place on Saturday, February 12, from 10 am to 7 pm; Sunday, February 13, noon to 8 pm; and Monday, February 14, from 9 am to 8 pm. Each serenade includes two or three songs.

Interested parties should contact the Mad Hatters through Dick Walter at 203-438-8154 or Bob Bradley at 845-225-4919.

Mad Hatter Chorus President Danny Anderson says they are delighted to waive the group’s traditional $49 Singing Valentine fee to brighten the day of a US service man or woman’s sweetheart.

“Valentine’s Day is especially tough on military couples,” he said. “We know that a Singing Valentine goes a long way toward bridging the miles that separate our service men and women from their loved ones. We expect a few tears and lots of smiles, but saying ‘I love you’ in song often leaves sweethearts speechless.”

The Mad Hatters are members of the Barbershop Harmony Society, the world’s largest all-male singing organization. With nearly 30,000 members in 800 chapters nationwide, the Mad Hatters will join hundreds of barbershop quartets across the country this Valentine’s Day to deliver Singing Valentines to sweethearts everywhere.

The Mad Hatter Barbershop Chorus is a non-profit fraternal organization affiliated with the worldwide, 30,000-member Barbershop Harmony Society. Based in Danbury, the Hatters have been singing since 1966. Led by Music Director Joe Hudson, the Hatters currently have 40 members, including 32 active singers and eight who lend a hand backstage.

The Mad Hatters perform publicly at such venues as civic events, schools, senior centers and private functions. The a cappella group also competes on stage with other barbershoppers from the United States and Canada.
