U-13 Girls
Newtown Flash 1, Ridgefield 0: The Flash dominated on offense but was held down by tough Ridgefield goalkeeping. Lydia Beiter assisted Lindsay Jossickâs decisive goal. Jilliana Ciamarra, Abby Blakeman, Jenna Hindes and Bianca Solano led the defensive effort. Flash goalkeeper Katie Shirley earned the shutout.
U-11 Girls
Newtown 6, New Milford 0: The Newtown Lightning got the spring season off to an impressive start with a decisive victory. Kailee Dunnigan scored three goals for the Lightning, Sarah Lynch put in two, and Kelsey Muniz had one. Michelle Zarifis played well in her midfield position. Dale Shearin, Cassie Fischer, Siena Cicarelli and Raquel Crespo shared goalie duties for the Lightning.
Newtown 3, New Canaan 2: Sarah Lynch had two goals and Jessica Keller scored one to lead the Lightning past rival New Canaan. Newtown dominated the first half, with aggressive offense and a tough back field. Shelby Tolla stood out on defense, with good hustle and tenacious play. Kate Fallon and Dale Shearin handled the nets.
U-12 Boys
Stamford 3, Newtown Beasts 2: The Beasts were led by goals from Andrew Martinez and Connor Gallagher. Robert Linden also had a strong game and contributed an assist. Owen Gaston, Jonah Muniz, Matt Baldino and Doug Miller played well on defense and Grant Ricketts played a strong game in the midfield.  Â
U-11 Boys
Wilton 2, Newtown White Lightning 0: Newtown traveled to Wilton and lost a hard fought match to start the spring season. Wilton scored back-to-back goals in a two-minute span. Newtown dominated second-half play but was not able to convert. Goalkeeper Kevin Ovendorf had a dozen saves in the defeat. Graham Hubber, Patrick Rowley and Michael Cook were aggressive on offense. Dillon Wikramanayake and Kevin Droniak were solid on defense.Â
U-10 Boys
Newtown Strikers 1, Greenwich 0: Chris Healy scored the lone goal (assisted by Bryce Mather) in the Strikersâ first outing of the spring season. James Carney played aggressively at both ends of the field, and Michael OâKeefe was strong on defense. Josh Houle and Paul OâLeary combined in the goal for the shutout.
