ENGLEWOOD, N.J. â Rose Hill Auction Gallery will be selling 600 lots of mid to late Twentieth Century furniture, lighting, pottery, glass and artworks Monday, January 31, at 5 pm. Among the modern masters that Rose Hill will be selling are Wendell Castle, Dunbar, Bertoia, Eames, Paul Evans, Risom, Saarinen, Springer, Thonet, Mogensen and McCobb.
Some highlights include a classic red-coated fiberglass plastic Castle chair and a fine black walnut swing chair attributed to Castle, a rare Nelson Pretzel chair, an early H. Miller DTW dining table, a rare Kagan tri-symmetric walnut and mosaic coffee table, an unusual midcentury teak chair with built-in chest of drawers, a 1938 Gilbert Rhode birch and oil cloth coat rack, four Norman Cherner chairs, a Paul Evans burl and metal patchwork coffee table, a Parzinger polished brass chandelier with candlestick holders and a Henningsen metal and chrome egg fixture.
Items from the 1970s include a Luxo red-orange floor lamp, a Kagan club chair, six Thayer Coggin chrome upholstered arm chairs, a sensational elliptical bullet coffee table, a collection of Lucite pieces that include a vanity with bench, dining chairs and card table, and fantastic Charles Hollis Jones bar stools and lamps.
Along with a sizable collection of American art pottery, including two rare Scheier 21-inch-tall vases, are an assortment of glass, porcelain and silver objets dâart and a sensational 8-inch glass and Lucite display case to hold all these smalls.
A group of lithographs by major Twentieth Century artists such as Agam, Buffet, Calder, Dali, Haring, Katz, Rosenquist, Nevelson and Lindner will also be offered. Of special interest is the Rauschenberg litho, âThe Year Of The Woman,â which celebrates the first women to enter the US Senate. Also available are Alexander Calderâs âBalloons and Parachutes,â a lovely Baziotes, and caricatures of Josephine Baker and The Honeymooners actors by the late Al Hirschfeld.
Marilyn Monroe images dominate the photography part of the sale and include three posthumous portraits by Halsman, a stunning 30- by 40-inch black and white limited edition by Milton Greene and a nude portrait-litho by Bert Stern that was the last photo taken before her untimely death.
