Jose              Moniz

Jose Moniz, 68, of Danbury, died January 19 at Danbury Hospital following a long illness with cancer.

He is survived by his son, Joey Moniz of Newtown; and daughters, Madeline Casarella of New Fairfield and Maryjoe Moniz of Danbury. He also leaves behind a brother, Alvaro Moniz of Danbury, and his five devoted sisters who cared for him during his illness, Maria Lourdes Lima and Maria Luz Teixeira of Danbury, Maria J. Albuquerque of Brookfield, Deolinda Ramada of Branford and Maria Fatima Assuncao of Spring, Texas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr Moniz was born in Sao Miguel Azores, the son of the late Manuel and Deolinda (DeSousa) Moniz and attended school in the Azores. He came to America in 1957 and worked as a construction worker for over 30 years and belonged to Local Union 675. Mr Moniz took early retirement to enjoy time planting his garden and tending to his rabbits. He also enjoyed traveling to the Azores, Brazil, California, and Canada.

Mr Moniz was predeceased by a brother, Manuel Moniz of Fall River, Mass.

Funeral services will be private. There are no calling hours.
