Alphonse John Bobowick
Alphonse John Bobowick, 92, died at his home on February 17. Born January 23, 1913, Alphonse was predeceased by his cherished wife of 61 years, Stella Ochman Bobowick.
Mr Bobowick is survived by his six children and their spouses, 12 grandchildren and their spouses, and three great-grandchildren and 21 nieces and nephews. His children and spouses are Dr A. Roger Bobowick and his wife, Barbara, of Sandy Hook, Cathy Bobowick Harmonay and her husband, Richard, of Sandy Hook, Marcia Bobowick Lynch and her husband, Dr Vincent A. Lynch, of Branford, Donald Bobowick of Trumbull, Richard Bobowick of Fairfield, and Barbara (Terry) Bobowick Turner of Fairfield. His grandchildren and spouses include Sarah Harmonay of Sandy Hook, Todd and Karen Bobowick of Sandy Hook, Scott and Sylvia, Bobowick of Fairfax Station, Va., Dr Christopher and Cindy Lynch of Hamden, David and Kristin Lynch of New York City, Gregor Bobowick of New York City, Kurt Bobowick of Burlington, Vt., Jill Bobowick of Fairfield, Trevor Bobowick of Monroe, Emily Bobowick of Monroe, Laura Turner of Fairfield, and Julia Turner of Fairfield. Great-grandchildren are Colden Bobowick of Sandy Hook, Raven Pearson of Fairfax Station, Va., and Ryan Lynch of Hamden.
Al Bobowick, affectionately known as âAJ,â owned the Three Door Restaurant in Bridgeport. Originally founded by his parents, Xavier and Catherine, the restaurant was a 90-year greater Bridgeport landmark in its two locations.
In his final years he had stepped away from his familiar place, greeting his guests daily in the lobby of the Three Door Restaurant. He spent his last years at home enjoying a well-deserved rest.
Mr Bobowick was well-known for his community service and actively supported many organizations. Some included The International Institute, The Kennedy Center, The Fairfield Foundation, The Cardinal Sheehan Center, his parish church St Andrewâs, St Michaelâs Church, the Diocese of Bridgeport, and the Shriners. Al was a founder of the Connecticut Burns Foundation. He also supported Southbury Training School where âThe Bobowickâ pavilion is dedicated in his honor.
In February 1992, Mr Bobwick received papal honors that are given to those âdistinguished for personal character and reputation and notable accomplishment.â Mr Bobowick was made a knight and commander in the Order of St Gregory the Great.
Mr Bobowick was a member of the Lions Club, Shriners, and Knights of Columbus. He was named Man of the Year by the Polish Heritage Society and received the Man and Boy Award from the Boys Club as well as the Royal Jewel from the Shriners.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St Andrewâs Church in Bridgeport. Interment followed in St Michaelâs Cemetery in Stratford.
