Fraser Woods Presents A ‘Gaggle’ Of Musical Delights

Fraser Woods Montessori School presents For the Birds, a lavish, musical interpretation of well-known folk tales, “The Golden Goose,” “The Firebirds” and “The Nightingale,” on Saturday, March 5, at Edmond Town Hall at 6 pm.

The event is open to the public.

“The Golden Goose” tells the story of depressed Princess Mel Anne, whose father will do anything to cheer her up. In another location, a family cannot afford coal, so their children go into the forest to gather firewood. They meet the Grey Man and his protégés, who are looking for good-hearted people to bestow good fortune on. The youngest brother in the family, Scholtz, is just that sort of person and receives a Golden Goose. He then goes on a journey with his goose in an effort to bring a smile to the depressed Princess Mel Anne’s face. Along the way, all sorts of people who would love to get the goose for their own, selfish reasons join him. Join the parade and find out what happens!

In “The Firebirds,” a strange thing is happening to the kingdom of the Tsar. All the beautiful sights are disappearing, reducing tourism and threatening to plunge the country into debt. So, the Tsar’s son and daughter journey to find and collect beautiful and exotic things to replace what has been lost. Along the way, they embark on an unforgettable adventure to defeat the evil, beauty-stealing ogres, with the help of some very beautiful, magical firebirds!

“The Nightingale” tells the story of the emperor of China who, though living in the most magnificent palace in the world, knows little about the Empire beyond his palace walls. Japanese royalty want to visit the emperor and see on his most famous creatures, the Nightingale. The emperor, who knows little about the bird, doesn’t want the royalty to think him a fool, so he demands the Lord-in-Waiting to find the bird and bring it to him. When the Nightingale is brought to the place, the emperor’s life is forever changed. However, when the Nightingale leaves unexpectedly, the emperor falls ill. Death and his demons appear to convince him to die. What happens then? Can anyone save the life of the emperor? “The Nightingale” engages the audience into an interactive plot where audience members become part of the action!

Tickets are $15 and will be sold in advance and at the door. For more information, contact Kathy Whaley at the Fraser Woods School, 426-3390, ext 301.
