Federation To Host Mayors From Israel

SOUTHBURY — The Federation, Jewish Communities of Western Connecticut, Inc will be hosting a reception honoring the mayors of Afula and Gilboa, Israel, on Wednesday, April 6, at 7:30 pm at the Walzer Family Jewish Community Campus, 444 Main Street North.

The public is invited to hear firsthand accounts from Mayor Menachem Yavor of Afula and Mayor Danny Atar of the Gilboa Regional Council about the current situation in Israel. These two communities are the partnership communities for the western Connecticut federation, as well as others in the state of Connecticut, and have had a relationship with western Connecticut federation for more than 25 years. Also present will be several students from the area visited the region in December and several teachers who traveled to the region this past summer for a teacher exchange program.

The federation will be unveiling plans for a community mission to Israel, September 18–25.
