Benefit Tag Sale Held For Hawleyville Fire & Rescue Company
The Stony Hill Four Corners Association held a community tag sale on Sunday, September 15, to benefit Hawleyville Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company.
The Stony Hill Four Corners (SH4C) Association comprises businesses along and around Stony Hill Road between Exits 8 and 9 of Interstate 84 in both Hawleyville and the Stony Hill area of Bethel.
Sunday’s tag sale marked the first time SH4C has hosted an event to benefit the volunteer fire and rescue company, according to SH4C president Keith Watson. He also said he hopes the event will be a recurring one.
Madeline Bunt, SH4C member and assistant vice president and branch manager at Union Savings Bank, said Quality Gem offered support for the event.
“We wanted to showcase everything [the organization] has to offer and give back to the community,” said Ms Bunt about the tag sale and Hawleyville.
The event was held on the grounds of the Big Buddha Cigar Lounge, at 34 Hawleyville Road, which has held smaller events to raise money for the fire company in the past,.
Just after 9 am, when the event started, people were milling about the tables set up for the tag sale, looking at all the assembled goods for sale.
Food items were available, a bounce house was set up for kids, and all the proceeds from the vendor table $25 registrations went directly to Hawleyville Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company, one of five volunteer fire companies that serve Newtown.
Mr Watson said SH4C’s next big event will be a Halloween Pancake Breakfast, scheduled for October 27, from 9 am until noon. It will take place at the Stony Hill Fire Department firehouse, 59 Stony Hill Road in Bethel.
