A Project To Help SNAN

Members of the Spay and Neuter Association of Newtown (SNAN) were surprised recently to receive a donation of $177 from two teenagers who live in Fairfield.

Casey Roonan, 13, and Terry Corcoran, 13, are seventh graders at the Fairfield Woods Middle School. When they were assigned to do a community service project as part of a health class, they decided to do one that involved animals. Casey’s family knew Roni Neukomm, treasurer of SNAN, so they decided to help the Newtown-based organization by baking sugar cookies stamped in the shape of dogs and cats and selling them. They made a large poster decorated with dog and cat photos, to attract attention, and sold the cookies in front of two Fairfield stores after getting permission from the managers.

They also made another poster detailing the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People (based on the book Seven Habits of Highly Successful People), to accompany their project.

Casey delivered the money SNAN at its regular monthly meeting at noon on Wednesday, April 20, in the C.H. Booth Library.
