R. Scott       LaFreniere

R. Scott LaFreniere, 37, beloved husband of Carol (Meister) LaFreniere of Middlebury and formerly of Newtown, died unexpectedly May 20 at his home.

He was born in Mineral Wells, Texas, on April 19, 1968, a son of Richard and Marilyn (Blaine) LaFreniere of Lakeland, Fla. Mr LaFreniere attended Newtown schools and was a graduate of Newtown High School, Class of 1986. He lived for some years in the Cape Cod area before returning to Connecticut in 1999. He worked as an independent tiling contractor.

An avid NASCAR fan, Mr LaFreniere enjoyed skiing (he was known as “the mad bomber”), barbecuing, early morning fishing expeditions, and coaching his son’s Middlebury Youth Baseball Team, the Dodgers. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and professional colleagues. His memory will always live in our hearts, and our lives are richer for having had him as a son, husband, father, and friend.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr LaFreniere is survived by his son, Jacob Meister; his daughter, Laura Mae; his brother, David LaFreniere of Christianburg, Va.; his paternal grandmother, Jean Twiss of Dennis, Mass.; an aunt, Barbara Decareau of Ipswich, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held May 25 at Christ The King Lutheran Church, Newtown.

Contributions may be made to the LaFreniere/Meister Family Fund, c/o Newtown Savings Bank, attention Debra Warren, PO Box 1158, Woodbury CT 06798.
