Senior Center Members Honored At RSVP Luncheon
Marilyn Place, director of the Newtown Senior Center and Retired and Seniors Volunteer Program (RSVP) Community Advisory Council co-chairperson, and 31 seniors from Newtown attended the RSVP 32nd Annual Recognition Luncheon at the Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury on May 18. The recognition luncheon is a yearly celebration of the achievements of the members who volunteer in local organizations and agencies.
âWe have 55 volunteers from the senior center,â said Ms Place, âand close to 400 seniors from Northern Fairfield County who volunteer [with RSVP].â
RSVP is a network of more than 760 national service programs that provide opportunities for Americans age 55 and over to use their life experiences to meet needs in the community. Volunteers also provide support services to nonprofit programs.
Following lunch and greetings from RSVP Director Ellen Melville and American Red Cross Chapter Chairman Drew Morton, Maureen Farrell presented volunteers with recognition pins.
Virginia Parsloe, Sandy Hook, received a pin for 20 years of service, and Anoinette Oman, also of Sandy Hook, received her ten-year pin.
Newtown Senior Center members receiving pins for five years of volunteer service were: Dorothy Bresson, Doris Bulmer, and Mary Maye of Sandy Hook, and Dolores Miller, George Miller, Lois Pratt, and Doris Travis, all of Newtown.
