Marjorie L. Berleur

Marjorie L. Berleur, 73, wife of Christian Berleur of Heritage Village, Southbury, a longtime Newtown school teacher, died May 4 in Mediplex of Southbury.

Mrs Berleur was born in Bar Harbor, Me., September 18, 1929, a daughter of the late Ralph and Edith (Murch) Boynton. She was a graduate of Maine Teachers College in Machias, Me.

In 1952 she came to Newtown and began her teaching career, first at Sandy Hook School, then at Hawley School, where she taught the fourth grade.

During her career, Mrs Berleur took professional courses at Western Connecticut State University. She retired in 1982.

Mrs Berleur moved to Southbury in 1997. She was a member of the Newtown Woman’s Club and the Connecticut Education Association.

In addition to her husband, Mrs Berleur is survived by a sister, Dorothy Coffin, of Bar Harbor, Me.; and two nieces and a nephew.

Private funeral services took place in Bar Harbor at the convenience of the family. Burial was in Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor.

The Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, was in charge of arrangements.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
