Literacy Volunteers Needs Tutors
DANBURY â Literacy Volunteers of America-Danbury is seeking adult volunteers to serve as teachers and tutors for the fall semester, which will begin September 6. Orientation and training will be provided at the Literacy Volunteers headquarters, 261 Main Street.
Literacy Volunteers-Danbury is a nonprofit agency that teaches basic English language and literacy skills. Volunteer teachers and tutors agree to serve a minimum of two hours a week for at least one semester. They tutor one or more adult students in basic reading, English as a second language (ESL), high school equivalency (GED) study, or precollege preparation, mornings, afternoons, and/or evenings. No foreign language ability or teaching background is required, in most cases.
This semester, Literacy VolunteersÂ-Danbury is offering Basic Computer Literacy, as well as Smart Money, a course in basic financial literacy. Volunteers with a basic background in those subjects are needed to teach each of those subjects. For more information, call 792-8260.
