Biava Quartet Will Perform At Roxbury Library
ROXBURY â The Biava Quartet, winner of the prestigious 2003 Naumberg Chamber Music Award, will perform quartets by Debussy, Mozart, and others at Minor Memorial Library on Sunday, August 7, at 4 pm, as part of the Frasier W. McCann concert series.
Formed in 1998 at the Cleveland Institute of Music, the quartet has appeared at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and major music festivals and competitions around the world. Critics refer to the groupâs âsensitivity and maturity far beyond its cumulative yearsâ and to the musiciansâ talent for âallowing the music to speak for itself.â
Quartet members are in residence at Yale, where they are teaching assistants to the Tokyo Quartet.
The annual concerts are held in memory of Roxburyâs Frasier W. McCann, a major benefactor of the library, who was an avid lover of music.
The concert and following reception are open to the public, free of charge. The library, which is at 23 South Street, is handicapped-accessible. Call 860-350-2181 for information and directions.
