Police Plan Sobriety Checkpoint
For August 27/28
Police plan to conduct a sobriety checkpoint on the night of Saturday, August 27, and early morning hours of Sunday, August 28, according to Sergeant Christopher Vanghele.
Police did not disclose the road where they will hold the checkpoint. Ten patrol officers and one sergeant are slated to participate in the event intended to get intoxicated motorists off the road.
Police will stop all passing motorists to learn whether drivers are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Brief interviews will be conducted. People who are suspected of being intoxicated will be tested for sobriety.
Violators will be arrested. Those who are arrested will be brought to the police station for arrest processing and will be issued court appearance dates. Police also will be enforcing seatbelt laws during the checkpoint, among other motor vehicle laws.
Volunteer firefightersâ emergency lighting equipment will be used to illuminate the sobriety checkpoint.
A majority of the overtime pay that police receive to work at such checkpoints is covered with funds from a state public safety grant.
