Occupation: I am a self-employed graphic artist with a passion for astrology. I am at The Little Green Barn in Sandy Hook every Tuesday afternoon to do astrological consultation. Itâs not an in-depth look; itâs sort of a quick sketch. I use software, because astrology is really a mathematical statement. I do readings at gatherings and parties. People like to get together and socialize and I do the readings. I really enjoy that.
Family: I live with my husband, Kevin Hanlon, in Southbury in an old house weâre renovating. I actually met him doing his chart.
Pets: I have four dogs and two cats. Itâs an embarrassment. And I have their charts, too. I adore them. Since Iâve worked from home for so long, theyâre my work companions.
How long have you worked in Newtown? I met Mary Fellows [owner of The Little Green Barn] when I very first moved to Southbury 3½ years ago. Her mother was a very well-known astrologer around here. Mary was starting the Farmers Market and she wanted me to do astrological readings there. So this will be the third year Iâve done readings here.
What do you like to do in your free time? I do a lot of volunteer work for a professional astrology group. I do their newsletter. I plan the programs and venues for NSGR, an international astrology research and educational organization. I also do âhotâ yoga â it is so intense. Itâs yoga done at temperatures over 100 degrees and the room is darkened. You almost have to surrender to the intensity of the experience. I also study the Tarot. Iâm very involved in that intuitive kind of work.
Do you have a favorite musician? I love all different kinds of music. I just went to see Celtic Women at the Oakdale Theater. That was wonderful.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? Iâm a Sagittarian, so I love traveling anywhere. The last big place I went was Thailand, about four years ago. Iâve done some graphic design work in St Lucia in the Caribbean. It was a little hot for me, but I loved it. Working on the house has curbed my traveling lately.
If you could spend a day with anyone in history, who would it be? Iâm actually reading this book called Cosmos and Psyche by Richard Tarnas. Iâm loving his book, so he would be someone I would want to meet. Ben Franklin, too. I love him.
What is the best thing about Newtown? I especially like Sandy Hook. Itâs such a sweet little place. Getting the sidewalks in and the street fairs have been great. Iâve met some wonderful people.
Do you keep anything interesting in your purse? I have the tiniest purse. I donât keep very much of anything in it, but I do have a crazy tea bag. Itâs a Tazo tea bag called âJoy.â And I have a little, tiny angel pin from my father.
Do you have a personal philosophy? The lens I see everything through is this astrology work. It has helped me frame experiences and move through exciting and difficult circumstances. Astrology links me to a larger whole.
What do you most cherish? My family. I have four sisters and a big, extended family. Iâm the oldest of the girls, so I have a special connection with them and their children.
