Fall Senior League Baseball
Fall Senior League Baseball
Newtownâs fall 18U baseball team will begin its inaugural season next month. The new Connecticut Senior Baseball League (CSBL), which was formed with ten teams this past summer, has established a fall schedule, enabling high school varsity and other local baseball players ages 16-18 to compete, for the first time, in the fall.
Traditionally, 16-18 year old players in Newtown and many other Connecticut towns only played summer baseball. But last spring, Newtown Senior Babe Ruth started a four-team spring league for that age group, and, this past summer, two Senior Babe Ruth leagues â the I-84/Candlewood Valley and the Housatonic Valley â merged into the CSBL.
The CSBL lured the stateâs high school varsity players and some top college players. The Newtown Lightning finished third in the league behind Shelton and Watertown after winning its division title in a double-elimination tournament.
The seasonal registration fee for Newtown players is $140.
