As the 2005-06 winter season prepares to open, 54 Newtown High School fall athletes were presented with All-SWC honors.

Football had the most honorees with nine and girls swimming (which successfully defended its South-West Conference championship this fall) had eight. Then came field hockey (7), boys’ cross country (7), boys’ soccer (6), girls’ cross country (6), girls’ soccer (6) and volleyball (5).

The athletes –

Girls swimming: All-Conference, First Team – Maricate Conlon, Abby Atkinson, Sally Tabler, Dana Gnerre and Jaclyn Van Waalwijk; All Conference, Second Team – Liz Gugino and Melissa Metzger; All Conference, Third Team – Shannon Kennedy.

Football: All Conference, First Team – Marc Ingerman, Joe DeVellis, James Wiedemann and Grant Speer; All Conference, Second Team – Chris Johnson, Matt Berquist, Kevin Regan and Steve Orrico; Honorable Mention – Travis Speer.

Field Hockey: All Conference – Erin Clark and Rita Magliocco; All Colonial – Lisa Alberico, Katie Datin, Kerrie Canavan and Sam Wong; Honorable Mention – Alana Wenick.

Boys Cross Country: All Conference, First Team – Scott Nichols, Alister Ratcliff and Eric MacKnight; All Conference, Second Team – Zach Schwartz, Jake Sullivan, Ryan Morrissey and Matt Cole.

Girls Cross Country: All Conference, First Team – Michelle Brennan, Moira Collier, Sara Pollock, Sadie Ball and Elise DeRoo; All Conference, Second Team – Jen Brill.

Boys Soccer: All Conference, First Team – Brian Conroy, Alex Meisel, Marc Doherty and Chris Hoagland; Honorable Mention – Louis Ritzinger and Justin Miller.

Girls Soccer: All Conference, First Team – Casey Frobey, Tara Gaston and Alex Konneker; All Conference, Second Team – Kyla Miles; Honorable Mention – Darcy Fiscella and Kristi Nowak.

Volleyball: All Conference, First Team – Diana Grimaldi and Becky Huot; All Conference, Second Team – Jenna Van Waalwijk and Miranda Rucinski; Honorable Mention – Christie Iwanicki.
