To the Editor:

We feel comfortable using the words “genuine,” “sincere” and “politician” together in one sentence when we are talking about Tony Hwang. 

It is a pleasure to know Tony, his wife Grace and their children. Our children are in school together. The relationship has grown from Little League to the tennis court to Wakeman and the Yankees. Grace and Tony are wonderful parents, loving, supportive, respectful and encouraging to their children and each other.

Tony could not be more proud of the person Grace is and of her accomplishments, both professionally and personally. With his devotion and commitment to their family life, Grace has been able to give the attention to her career that can only happen with a partner who rolls up their sleeves and pitches in at home. Grace has stood next to Tony as he has become entrenched in the community and worked to understand his constituents’ concerns. She has cheered him on as he has unabashedly stood up for what he feels is needed to change in our government to make our lives better. Grace and Tony have a true partnership.   

And Tony has a true partnership with his constituents. When he entered politics he brought his strong principles to the General Assembly. His philosophy of working for the benefit of the citizens and not the political party is reality for him. He has worked tirelessly in Hartford to convince government to adopt common sense limits on spending and taxation. His contributions to education have been widely recognized. Tony has also devoted his time and energy to local events, helping the communities he represents.  

Tony possesses that rare combination of being bright and able to connect with people easily. It’s genuine. He wants to do his part; there is much more to be done. Tony doesn’t make us wonder how we were so misled to have elected him in the first place. He’s delivered more good stuff than he promised. We can’t deal with the problems at hand if politicians sit on their respective perches and don’t work together to focus on the issues. The partisan drivel just creates another problem. We will all be winners if Tony Hwang represents us in the Connecticut State Senate.
