To the Editor:

I choose Jen Aguilar as candidate for state representative for the 112th District, representing Monroe and Newtown.  I most admire Jen for her selfless volunteer work.  As long as I have known her, she has volunteered countless hours of her time with the single goal of improving of our community and its residents.

When I moved to Monroe five years ago, Jen was easily identified as a community leader.  I first met her when I joined the Fawn Hollow Elementary PTO, where she served as co-president for three consecutive years.  Through her leadership, the organization grew into a vibrant, enthusiastic, and determined group of parents and teachers dedicated to our children’s academic future and quality of life. 

Shortly thereafter, Jen was once again at the forefront of our community spearheading the town’s “Trick or Trunk” Halloween event, a safe trick-or-treating alternative for our children to enjoy. That event became a fundraiser for Project Warmth, Monroe’s Home Energy Assistance Fund, and organization in which Jen was, of course, deeply involved.

Following the Sandy Hook tragedy, Jen played a central role in creating and preparing the playground at the temporary Sandy Hook Elementary in an effort to welcome our neighbors to their new school.  A true voice for our community’s children, she became instrumental in revitalizing the Monroe Youth Commission, serving as secretary, to advocate and coordinate youth services throughout our town.

Most recently, Jen was elected as co-president of Monroe’s Parents Council, whose goal is to improve communications between our town’s PTO’s and school administration… again, keeping our children’s best interest front and center. 

With proud enthusiasm, I support Jen Aguilar for state representative for the 112th District.  Hartford needs true community leaders who have heart, passion, and focus.  The citizens of Monroe and Newtown do not want a standard issue politician representing us with their hidden agendas, hands in our pockets, and favors owed.  We want Jen Aguilar whose flawless reputation and true commitment to our town clearly speak for themselves.  Please join me in supporting Jen Aguilar and sending her to Hartford this November.
