Mum Show Will Constantly Change

BRIDGEPORT — The Beardsley Zoo and the Bridgeport Men’s Garden Club will celebrate the colors of fall with the 9th Annual Fall Mum Show. This year’s show will be in the zoo’s historic greenhouse, providing a real treat for the eyes.

“There’ll be over 1,000 plants on view, from tiny button mums that are no bigger than three-quarters of an inch across to giant spider mums, spanning over 7 inches across the bloom,” said garden club volunteer Robert Downs. Zoo Greenhouseman Gary Jessop added, “This show will be constantly changing. As flowers going out of bloom are replaced with ones just coming into bloom, the zoo visitor will always see something bright and fresh.”

The Zoo’s Annual Mum Show will officially open on October 31, also the date of the zoo’s Tricks for Treats event, and run through Thanksgiving.

Admission to the zoo is $6 for adults, $4 for children and seniors, and free for children under 3. Beardsley Zoo, at 1875 Noble Avenue, is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm. To learn more about the zoo, its greenhouse and volunteer programs call the information line at 203/394-6565.
