WD

ROSLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. — A house burglary on January 10 resulted in the theft of antique jewelry valued at approximately $2,000.

Among the major items stolen was a woman’s 15K yellow gold ruby and diamond ring, circa 1900, featuring a large ruby in the center with rose-cut chips all around it; they are set in platinum, which gives it a marcasite effect. There are balls on the inside of the band to make it smaller.

A man’s Victorian rose gold watch fob/locket was also taken. The square cornelian agate is embossed with a man’s face in a classical style and the back opens to reveal a photo of a woman and a lock of hair.

Also reported missing is a man’s Victorian 18K rose gold watch chain, about 24 inches long.

Other items include a sterling silver charm bracelet, circa 1945, with 20–30 charms, including a silver and blue heart inscribed with the name Jim Bottomley, who was a famous St Louis baseball player during the 1930s. Other charms are baby shoes, a rattle, a typewriter, a spray can, two hearts, a fruit cart, a Mexican fish with green rhinestone eyes and keys to the city of New Orleans.

A woman’s watch brooch, marcasite with two birds and the watch in the center, covered with a moon face and an Aesthetic Movement 14K gold charm shaped like a fan with embossed bird, circa 1875, featuring a short, thin gold chain from 1980 were also stolen.

Anyone having information regarding these items is asked to contact Detective David T. Gasperis, 6th Precinct, Nassau County, N.Y., at 516-573-6600. Refer to case number 2907-05.
