WINDSOR - If there is a natural or man-made disaster, do I have a plan in place to ensure the safety and security of my horses?
WINDSOR â If there is a natural or man-made disaster, do I have a plan in place to ensure the safety and security of my horses?
That is the question the Connecticut Farm Bureau will help local horse owners answer on Monday, February 27, at the Connecticut Farm Bureau Association, 775 Bloomfield Avenue in Windsor, with a presentation on the Connecticut State Animal Response Team (SART).
The presentation will begin at 7 pm.
Dr Arnold Goldman, DVM, president of Connecticut Veterinary Association, and Dr Mary Jane Lis, DVM, state veterinarian for the Department of Agriculture and Dr Peter Conserva will be the presenters and will share not only their expertise, but their passion for disaster planning for horses.Â
Dr Goldman has been working with many organizations, including the Connecticut Office of Emergency Management, the University of Connecticut, the state Department of Agriculture, the USDA, and the North Carolina SART to coordinate disaster planning for animals in Connecticut.
Dr Lis, MS, DVM, PhD, has been the state veterinarian since 1999. Aside from her role at the Department of Agriculture, Dr Lis has an extensive agricultural background and she raises sheep and goats on her farm in Durham.
Dr Conserva is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Veterinary Medicine and serves as Treasurer of the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association. Dr Conserva and his wife Darlene are owners of Peterbrook Farm in West Suffield, where they raise dressage horses.
