Revised Town Zoning Regulations Posted Online

Newtown’s revised zoning regulations are now posted on the town’s website on the Internet, providing the public with simple electronic access to the rules.

The Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) approved the revised rules on March 20. They went into effect on April 1.

The revised rules are intended to be easier to understand and use than the previous regulations, having been reorganized to make them more logical and straightforward. The P&Z terms the zoning rule revisions a “comprehensive update and reorganization.”

The rule revisions followed lengthy review by the P&Z involving many public hearings.

The zoning regulation revision project stemmed from the P&Z’s adoption of the 2004 Town Plan of Conservation and Development. The original town zoning regulations were adopted in August 1958, and then thoroughly revised in April 1987.

The address for the town’s website on the Internet is: www.newtown-ct.gov/Public_Documents/index.
