‘Chris Coogan Christmas’ To Feature Local Performers

WESTPORT — A holiday concert featuring jazz and gospel music will take place Saturday, December 12, at the Unitarian Church of Westport. The event, “A Chris Coogan Christmas,” will feature performances by local singers. Newtown resident Stephen Bustamante is among the 35 members of the choir, which includes members from across Fairfield County.

Tickets are $20 each, general seating, and will be sold at the door.

There are no reservations for this event. All seating is first come, first serve. The church is at 10 Lyons Plain Road in Westport, and doors open at 6:30 pm.

Mr Coogan artfully blends jazz with traditional Christmas carols in a unique, seasonal concoction that aims to uplift spirits and inspire the spirit of the holiday season. His Good News Gospel Choir, comprised of area residents, will sing Christmas carols, both traditionally and in the gospel style, then Mr Coogan’s jazz duo will explore the nuances of the same carols through improvisation.

Mr Coogan will also perform his original Christmas music, including a setting of a Gregorian chant and a new look at some of the music from the seasonal favorite, Vince Guarlidi’s Charlie Brown Christmas. To add to this, several soloists will perform gospel and traditional Christmas music.
